Collectie: AOC SAINT-EMILION

Saint-Emilion (AOC Saint-Emilion) Bordeaux, red wine: same geographical area but two AOC, Saint-Emilion and Saint-Emilion Grand Cru. They are located 35 km north of Bordeaux, 8 km from Libourne with a vineyard that wraps almost entirely around the medieval city, with the Barbanne stream to the north, Pomerol and Libourne to the west, Castillon (Côtes de Bordeaux) to the east, and the Dordogne valley to the south. The appellation extends over 9 communes, covers 5500 ha (including 3500 ha for the Saint-Emilion Grands Crus) and an annual production of about 3.5 million bottles.

Here, hillsides and limestone plateaus, high terraces and low plains, rocks, sands, molasses and asterias permanently alternate the physiognomy of the soil. Thus, on a very limited surface, we can distinguish :

sandy-clay soils, more or less calcareous,
superficial soils (on the Saint-Martin plateau) where the roots hardly exceed a few dozen centimeters, which forces the roots to go deep to feed themselves,
soils made up of gravelly and sandy crests,
soils with a very clayey texture towards Pomerol.
In Saint-Emilion, a difference of a few meters is enough to produce a different vintage.
