Collectie: AOC FRONSAC
The AOC Fronsac, located west of Libourne, is bordered by two rivers, the Dordogne and the Isle and covers no less than seven communes: La Rivière, Saint-Germain-de-la-Rivière, Saint-Michel-de-Fronsac, Saint Aignan, Saillans and Galgon. The appellation covers 850 ha and produces only red wines (about 44,000 hl/year).
The climate of Fronsac is the same as that of the Libourne region. It is a climate favorable to the good maturity of the grapes (oceanic temperate). The clay-limestone soils made of molasses of Fronsac (a mixture of clay and sandstone) are conducive to the production of great red wines. Here, Merlot dominates the blending of grape varieties (85% of plantings). It is often associated with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The mouth of Fronsac is balanced, robust and rich. These wines are distinguished by a tannic structure with aromas of red fruits and spices. Note that the wines of Fronsac are wines to keep.
