The property
The vineyard of Château La Pointe extends over 22 hectares implanted on a mosaic of soils conferring to the wines of the property a singular and delicate style. Accompanied by Hubert de Boüard de Laforest, co-owner of Château Angélus, the team of the property has been working since 2008 on the evolution of the cultivation practices in order to express the full potential of this reference of the Pomerol appellation.
The vintage
2020 is marked, like 2019 and 2018, by a contrasting climate at the origin of a great vintage. The important rainfall of the winter and spring allowed to ensure water reserves which proved to be salvageable during a particularly hot and dry summer. The few rainy episodes before the harvest allowed the grapes to ripen further. The harvest, which started very early, took place under very good weather conditions.
The numerous efforts made in recent years by the château's teams, in terms of adapting the work of the soil and the vines in order to absorb the climatic excesses and to preserve the balance of the grapes, are also major elements in the success of this vintage. Singular by its style mixing the opulence of 2018 and the elegance of 2019, this 2020 vintage is probably the best vintage produced by the property.
Vinification and maturation
The soft extractions favored during the winemaking process give this vintage a beautiful balance, fine and silky tannins as well as a nice acidity.
Blend
Château La Pointe 2020 is a blend of Merlot (76%) and Cabernet Franc (24%)
