Château Prieuré-Lichine originated in the Margaux area.

Originally, the vine was cultivated by the monks under the impulse of Pope Clement V. In the 18th century, wine growing developed, thanks to the attraction of the English for the wines of the region. From then on, these church wines acquired a strong reputation, until the day they became the property of the Bordeaux merchant Durand Delains, under the First Empire.

Following its promotion to 4th Grand Cru Classé in 1855, the Domaine du Prieuré continued its development. But it had to face new dangers: diseases such as oidium and phylloxera, as well as the two world wars, continued to ravage the vineyard, which survived as best it could.

In 1953, following the acquisition of the estate by Alexis Lichine, nicknamed the Pope of Wine, the château experienced a new boom. The estate, which was then called Prieuré-Cantenac, became Prieuré-Lichine. When Alexis died on June 1, 1989, his family took over the management of the estate.

Today, Château Prieuré-Lichine is owned by the Ballande Group, which is working hard to preserve this great wine.
