A Pauillac Grand Cru Classé blending complexity and freshness
The Estate
As a 5th Growth Classified Pauillac, Château Pontet-Canet has experienced an irresistible rise, establishing itself as one of the Médoc’s most iconic estates. Under the leadership of Justine and Alfred Tesseron, the château has become a pioneer of biodynamics in Pauillac, achieving results that exceed all expectations. Vintage after vintage, the estate stands out as one of the finest references on Bordeaux’s Left Bank.
The Vineyard
A benchmark among Pauillac’s great wines, Château Pontet-Canet tends its vines with the utmost respect for the environment. The soils are worked by horse-drawn plows to prevent compaction, and biodynamics is practiced across the estate. Through their expertise and deep understanding of the vineyard, the technical teams help the vines reach their full potential.
The Vintage
A relatively dry and cold winter was followed by a mild spring, encouraging early bud break. Flowering occurred under ideal conditions, promising a high-quality harvest. The summer’s clement weather ensured steady and optimal vine development, despite two heatwaves in late August and early September—the earliest and longest in the estate’s history. The harvest revealed healthy, exceptionally high-quality grapes.
Winemaking and Aging
The wine is aged in 50% new barrels, 35% concrete amphorae, and 15% one-wine barrels.
Blend
This Château Pontet-Canet 2023 is composed of Cabernet Sauvignon (52%), Merlot (39%), Cabernet Franc (6%), and Petit Verdot (3%).
