The property

Located in the heart of Libourne, Château Mazeyres is an emblematic property of the Pomerol appellation, on the right bank of Bordeaux. The estate bears witness to ancient origins, dating back to Roman times. Since 1992, Alain Moueix has been managing Château Mazeyres with talent and passion, bringing his viticultural expertise and know-how.

The vineyard

The vineyard of Château Mazeyres covers 23.82 hectares of vines located in the heart of the Pomerol appellation on an exceptional site. The vines have been cultivated biodynamically since 2012 with a Biodyvin certification by Ecocert obtained in 2018. The vineyard of Château Mazeyres is located on the western and southern terraces of the appellation with 3 different types of terroirs present. We find soils of fine clayey gravel, clayey sand and gravelly-sandy clay. The particularity of these soils gives the wines of Château Mazeyres a unique personality and a characteristic velvety mouthfeel.

The vintage

A vintage of contrasts, 2020 began with an exceptionally rainy winter followed by a spring with hot and humid conditions favoring a strong mildew pressure. Flowering was random depending on the grape variety, the terroir and the weather conditions. If the summer was marked by a dry and hot weather, the rainy episodes of mid-August were salutary for the vineyard. The combination of all these conditions led to a decrease in yields. The harvest started earlier than in other years, allowing the harvest of very ripe grapes and conferring a beautiful generosity to this vintage.

Vinification and maturation

54% of the wine is matured in barrels and tuns and 46% in 7 hl ovoid concrete vats, amphorae and small vats.

Blending

Château Mazeyres 2020 is a blend of merlot (72.5%), cabernet franc (25%) and petit verdot (2.5%).
