The estate
In 1697, the estate was sold to Simon Malescot, an advisor to King Louis XIV. In 1827, the Count of Saint-Exupéry, great-grandfather of the famous aviator, acquired it. Château Malescot St Exupéry, a three-century-old estate and a Third Classified Growth, boasts one of the finest terroirs in the Margaux appellation.
The vineyard
Château Malescot St Exupéry is a Margaux wine produced from a 23-hectare vineyard located at the heart of the appellation.
The vintage
2021 is a vintage marked by a mild winter, followed by a cool spring and an unstable summer.
Vinification and aging
Hand-harvested in small crates, the grapes are sorted both in the vineyard and at the winery. Alcoholic fermentation, lasting 8 to 12 days without added yeast, takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel and concrete vats. This is followed by aging on fine lees for 12 to 14 months in barrels (60% new oak), with regular bâtonage (lees stirring).
The blend
Cabernet Sauvignon (49%)
Merlot (38%)
Cabernet Franc (8%)
Petit Verdot (5%)
