The property

Created in 1920 by a passionate couple, Château Le Bon Pasteur was taken over in 1978 by the famous oenologist Michel Rolland and his brother, who thus took over from their father at the head of this Bordeaux grand cru.

The vineyard

The 6.6 hectares of vines of the estate, located in the heart of the Pomerol appellation, are spread over 23 parcels of typical terroir of the region and offer high quality wines. The vineyard is on average 40 years old and is managed using sustainable agriculture, which gives the estate the High Environmental Value certification.

The vintage

The 2020 vintage will be remembered as a historically early vintage. Following the rainy autumn, the winter marked a break with its mild and dry climate. This mildness also permeates the weather in the spring, which turns out to be more humid. This gives the vine an excellent water reserve. These conditions favor an early flowering. The summer is very sunny and dry which will give the berries a particular typicity. The climate of the year 2020 obliges the teams of the domain to carry out a work to measure of the vine. The result of this legendary vintage is elegant, powerful wines with a beautiful aromatic freshness.

Vinification and maturation

After the manual harvest which took place from September 11th to 29th, the grapes are taken to the cellar to begin the vinification process. A double sorting before and after de-stemming is carried out as well as an intra-parcel selection. The grapes macerate cold for 5 to 7 days before fermenting in new French oak barrels. Finally, the wine is aged for 15 to 18 months in the same barrels.

Blend

Merlot (80%), Cabernet Franc (20%)
