The property :
With origins dating back to the 16th century and the first harvest in 1599, Château Fombrauge is one of the oldest vineyards in Saint Emilion. The magnificent property is endowed with a chartreuse dating from the 17th century. Under the impetus of the Dumas de Fombrauge family, Château Fombrauge became a true model for Bordeaux winegrowing. This property of Bernard Magrez radiates today among the most beautiful wines of Saint-Emilion.

The vineyard :
Located around Saint-Christophe des Bardes, the vineyard of Château Fombrauge extends over 58 hectares of vines that are 37 years old on average. They are planted on clay-limestone soils with molasses of Fronsadais. The vineyard is maintained on a parcel-by-parcel basis with grassing of the rows of vines and ploughing.

Vinification :
The vintages of Chateau Fombrauge are selected by plot of land and by grape variety, respecting the age of the vines. The property is equipped with drones that allow us to establish maturity maps. Once the grapes have been harvested by hand in small crates and sorted on a table by 20 experienced people, the berries are vinified in wooden, stainless steel and concrete vats of small capacity by gravity with a pre-fermentation maceration and manual punching down.

Ageing :
16 months, 40% in new barrels, 60% in one-wine barrels.

Blend :
90% merlot, 10% cabernet franc.
