The property :
The name Château Angélus comes from the winegrowers who used to ring simultaneously the three churches in the heart of the famous medieval city of Saint-Emilion. This mythical property of the appellation was founded in 1782 and, for 8 generations, the de Boüard de Laforest family has been watching over this exceptional heritage.
The vineyard :
The vineyard of Château Angélus is located in the heart of Saint-Emilion. It extends over clay-sand-limestone soils.
The vintage :
The 2019 vintage, described as flamboyant, was marked by rainfall favorable to the vine. The clay-limestone soils allowed the vines to resist a hot, dry and sunny summer thanks to their accumulation of water and the redistribution of it. During this second year of conversion to organic farming, the use of copper in the vineyard was lower than the norm. The harvest started under the best auspices on September 18th.
Blend :
Merlot (60%), Cabernet Franc (40%)
Tasting :
The color of the 2019 Château Angélus is brilliant, almost purple. The great aromatic purity and bright notes of black fruits and wild cherry form the keystone of this 2019 vintage. The woody notes are perfectly integrated. On the palate, the attack is suave and the silky tannins are rolling and enveloping. The finish, thanks to the great quality of the Cabernet Franc, remains spicy and minty in a fresh tension. Revealing the authenticity of the Château Angélus terroir, this elegant 2019 vintage is chiseled and precise.
